Advocacy and Accompaniment

As resources permit, Muskoka/Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (MPSSAS) staff and volunteers are available to accompany female sexual assault survivors (who are 16 years-of-age and older) as they access appropriate services.

Whenever possible, MPSSAS staff or volunteers will accompany a woman who has been recently sexually assaulted to the hospital. In addition, accompaniment can be arranged if a woman wishes to attend other related professional appointments, and/or make a report to the police. This accompaniment can continue through a subsequent court process, when necessary.

MPSSAS staff can also advocate on a women’s behalf until she feels capable of doing so herself. This may include assisting in letter writing and making telephone calls, and/or arranging other meetings as requested.
